FromSoftware has recently unveiled more details about their upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also led to a unique design for the hub area's keeper, introducing a character that breaks from FromSoft's traditional aesthetic—embracing a more adorable look.

The trailer showcased during the Switch 2 Direct ended with an intriguing shot of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, directly engaging the audience. This character, as explained by director Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview with Nintendo, serves as the hub companion, akin to the iconic fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. Miyazaki elaborated, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance."

Miyazaki further highlighted the influence of the partnership with Nintendo, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership." He added with a chuckle, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman."

FromSoftware's shrine keepers have always been pivotal in guiding players through their challenging worlds. Characters like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have become familiar faces, often providing essential support and power-ups to aid progression.

In The Duskbloods, a PvPvE game, the role of the winged rat as a guide remains a mystery, sparking curiosity about the new and innovative ideas FromSoft is bringing to the table. Miyazaki assured fans that the team is experimenting with "a lot of new and interesting ideas," hinting at surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
