Stellars Blade Coming to PC in 2025
Stellar Blade's 2025 PC Release Confirmed: Potential PSN Requirement Raises Concerns
Following its PlayStation exclusive launch in April, Stellar Blade is officially coming to PC in 2025! This announcement follows earlier speculation and confirms SHIFT UP's plans for platform expansion.
SHIFT UP's Confirmation and PC Gaming's Rise
The PC release was confirmed in response to investor inquiries regarding Stellar Blade's future. SHIFT UP cited the booming PC gaming market, particularly on platforms like Steam, and the success of titles such as Black Myth: Wukong, as key factors driving their decision. While a precise release date remains unannounced, SHIFT UP intends to maintain the game's popularity through ongoing marketing and upcoming content. This includes a collaboration DLC with NieR: Automata and the highly requested Photo Mode, both launching November 20th.
The PSN Requirement Conundrum
Stellar Blade's PC release joins a growing trend of PlayStation exclusives making their way to PC. However, this trend has also introduced a controversial practice: the potential requirement to link Steam accounts with PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts. This could significantly restrict access for players in regions lacking PSN access.
Sony's stated rationale for this requirement, as expressed by CFO Hiroki Totoki, centers on ensuring the "safe" enjoyment of their live-service games. While this might be justifiable for certain titles, its application to single-player games raises questions.
The Necessity of a PSN Account Remains Unclear
Whether Stellar Blade will necessitate a PSN account for PC remains uncertain. Given SHIFT UP's ownership of the IP, it's possible a PSN link might not be mandatory. However, such a requirement could significantly impact PC sales, potentially hindering SHIFT UP's goal of exceeding console sales.
