"Recruit All Allies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows: A Guide"

Author : Nathan Update : May 14,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, Naoe and Yasuke face a daunting challenge, but they're not alone in their quest. If you're looking to bolster your team by finding and recruiting all possible allies, you've come to the right place.

Allies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Explained

There are two distinct types of allies you can recruit in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*. The first type enhances your Hideout by adding new functionalities. For example, recruiting the blacksmith allows you to forge and upgrade your equipment, giving you an edge in combat. The second type consists of combat allies who join you in the field, equipped with upgradeable abilities that prove invaluable in various scenarios.

Once you've recruited a combat ally, you can manage them from your Hideout or any unlocked kakurega. When called upon, these allies will deploy their initial skill and continue to fight by your side until either they're defeated or all enemies are eliminated. Constructing a dojo in your Hideout not only allows you to level up your allies but also enables you to have two allies equipped simultaneously.

While allies are optional and you can complete the game without them, having extra support can make a significant difference in your journey through *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

Here are the non-combat allies you can recruit through main and side quests:

  • Tomiko – Recruited through the quest "An Unpayable Debt."
  • Junjiro – Recruited through the quest "From Spark to Flame."
  • Heiji (Blacksmith) – Recruited through the quest "Way of the Blacksmith."

The following allies can be recruited to enhance your combat capabilities:

Yaya

Yaya, a Buddhist monk, first appears in the main quest "The Fatherless Monk." Her preference for justice over unnecessary violence aligns her closely with Yasuke. During the "Heads Will Roll" quest, choose to spare the target known as The Wounded to align with her values. Progress your relationship further by completing the "Find Yaya/The Stray Dogs" missions, where you should persuade her to forgive her apprentice and seek mutual forgiveness. Finally, ask her to join your cause in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

Yaya's abilities at each level are:

  • Novice: Joins the fight and performs pushback attacks.
  • Initiate: Knocks down an enemy when joining the fight.
  • Veteran: Uses a powerful kick to send enemies flying.

Katsuhime

For a ranged combat specialist, Katsuhime is your ally of choice. This Koga shinobi excels with the Teppo, delivering high damage from a distance. Start her recruitment in the Omi region by completing the quest to hunt down The Naginata, followed by "Showdown in Sakamoto" and "Requiem for Rokkaku." This will unlock the "Letter from Katsuhime" sidequest, leading to "The Diary of Lady Rokkaku." Rescue the target and invite Katsuhime to join your league.

Katsuhime's abilities are:

  • Novice: Deals daze damage when entering the fight.
  • Initiate: Uses a dazing bomb for an added area of effect when entering a fight.
  • Veteran: Her teppo shots that hit a dazed target now ricochet to another target.

Gennojo

Encounter the thief Gennojo during the "Missing Missive" quest, part of locating The Fool. Spare him, and he'll reappear in subsequent quests like "Lost Honor," "Sake and Sword," "Honor Among Thieves," and "Stolen Hearts." Flirt with him and affirm his convictions. In the "The Godless Harvest" side quest, prevent him from choosing the explosive option and convince him to join your team.

Gennojo's abilities include:

  • Novice: Arrives at the fight with a bomb to shock the enemy.
  • Initiate: Acts as a distraction to draw the attention of nearby enemies.
  • Veteran: Prevents servants from alerting others to your crimes.

Ibuki

In Iga, meet the ronin Ibuki, who's fighting corruption single-handedly. Start with the "Ambush Interrupted" sidequest near Kashiwara Village using Yasuke. Consistently side with Ibuki, and consider romancing him to solidify your bond. At the end of his questline, invite him to join your organization.

Ibuki's capabilities are:

  • Novice: Joins the fight and deals impact attacks.
  • Initiate: Shatters the armor of nearby enemies when joining the fight.
  • Veteran: More frequently shatters the armor of nearby enemies during combat.

Oni-yuri

If your strategy leans towards disabling rather than killing, Oni-yuri is the ally for you. Begin her recruitment in Tsuruga, Wakasa, with the "Sweet Lies" sidequest. Trust in her methods and integrity throughout her quests, culminating in the decision to invite her to join your league, with hopes of her changing her ways.

Oni-yuri's abilities are:

  • Novice: Enters the fray and puts an enemy to sleep.
  • Initiate: Releases a poison cloud to afflict nearby enemies.
  • Veteran: Delays enemy reinforcements.
