"First Post-Skywalker Star Wars Novel Unveiled"
We're excited to delve into the Star Wars universe beyond The Rise of Skywalker, and while Shawn Levy's eagerly awaited film Star Wars: Starfighter remains on the horizon, fans can soon explore new narratives through the upcoming young adult novel, Star Wars: The Last Order.
This novel, unveiled by publisher Penguin Random House, promises to deepen our understanding of John Boyega's iconic character Finn and Naomi Ackie's resistance ally Jannah from The Rise of Skywalker. Penned by Kwame Mbalia, the official synopsis reads:
"Following the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who had been kidnapped by the First Order. As Finn and Jannah set out to find the First Order officer responsible before he can endanger any more children, the two former stormtroopers must wrestle with their own complicated pasts as soldiers of the oppressive regime."
This marks the inaugural Star Wars project to delve into the universe post-Rise of Skywalker, though it's not the first planned venture to do so. Shawn Levy's film, set to take place several years after the ninth installment, is still highly anticipated. Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy shared insights in a February interview with Deadline, stating, "It's all post-[the first] nine. Shawn's is a standalone Star Wars story that'll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out." Jonathan Tropper, the writer attached to the project, expressed his enthusiasm to Screen Rant last month, saying, "I hope it's on the way sooner than you think." The film's release date was recently announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan, confirming Ryan Gosling's starring role, with a scheduled release on May 28, 2027.
