Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Delivery Not Guaranteed Due to High Demand
Nintendo has issued a critical alert to its U.S. fans regarding the highly anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for June 5. The company has announced that it cannot guarantee delivery on release day for those who registered their interest through the My Nintendo Store, echoing similar concerns previously expressed about demand in Japan.
An official update on the Nintendo website cautioned those who signed up for a Switch 2 that their invitation emails to complete their purchase might arrive after the console's launch. However, Nintendo assures buyers that they will confirm the shipping date at the time of purchase.
“Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store,” the statement from Nintendo reads. “We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase.”
Nintendo suggests that those eager to secure a Switch 2 on launch day might have a better chance by pre-ordering through third-party retailers. However, this advice comes at a time when pre-orders have already sold out, indicating the intense demand for the new console. “If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above,” the statement advises, linking to GameStop, where the Switch 2 is currently unavailable.
For those willing to wait, no further action is needed after registering interest with the My Nintendo Store. The company's message to fans is clear: patience might be necessary if you're set on buying directly from Nintendo.

The challenges faced by fans attempting to pre-order the Switch 2 on April 24, combined with Nintendo's latest warnings, suggest that obtaining the next-generation console around its launch date will be a significant challenge.
Earlier this week, Nintendo also warned its customers in Japan that a "significant" number would miss out on pre-ordering directly from the company. In a statement on X / Twitter, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa noted that 2.2 million people in Japan alone applied for a pre-order from the My Nintendo Store. This overwhelming number of applications "far exceeds our expectations, and far exceeds the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles that can be delivered from the My Nintendo Store on June 5," Furukawa explained.
According to an FAQ posted on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitations for the My Nintendo Store in the U.S. will begin on May 8, 2025. Subsequent batches will be sent "periodically" until purchasing is opened to everyone. The initial emails will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Those invited will have 72 hours from the email's dispatch to finalize their purchase.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:
- You must have purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- You must have maintained any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months.
- You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have accumulated at least 50 hours of total gameplay.
Last week, Nintendo announced that Switch 2 pre-orders would begin in the U.S. on April 24, 2025, maintaining the original price of $449.99 and the launch date of June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will also remain priced at $499.99, with the physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza priced at $79.99 and $69.99 respectively. However, Nintendo has increased the prices of Switch 2 accessories due to ongoing tariff issues.
Nintendo had initially planned to open pre-orders for the Switch 2 on April 9 but delayed them to assess the impact of tariffs and market conditions.
