During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: nearly the entire Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Moreover, select titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features. Among the highlighted games are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game comes with its own set of upgrades. The showcase kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV," featuring mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

Following that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were showcased, promising improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, these titles will benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which offers voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, along with enhanced graphics and framerates.

Two upcoming titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also see upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and offer 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Additionally, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, allowing owners of the original Switch versions to enhance their games.

The presentation also highlighted third-party titles receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 with exclusive game modes.

Nintendo sparked curiosity about these "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week with a webpage footnote related to the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system, which noted that these games cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
