GTA 6: S-Tier Potential? Ranking All Rockstar Games

Author : Charlotte Update : May 15,2025

The excitement for the new GTA 6 trailer is palpable, and if you missed it, we've analyzed all the secrets and details for you. Unfortunately, we'll need to wait until May 26, 2026, to dive into Lucia and Jason’s story. In the meantime, let's reminisce about the fantastic Rockstar games we've enjoyed over the years and rank them for fun!

Since its inception in 1998, Rockstar has developed over 30 games, giving us iconic series like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Manhunt. But which one takes the crown? Note that you won't find games like LA Noire or Max Payne 2 here, as we're focusing strictly on Rockstar-developed titles, not those they've published. I've ranked them using an IGN Tier List, based purely on my personal enjoyment over the years. Check out my tier list below:

Red Dead Redemption 2 easily secures the S-tier spot as my all-time favorite game. It's joined by its predecessor and GTA 5, both trailblazers in the cinematic open-world genre. I also have a soft spot for Max Payne 3's bullet time ballet and GTA San Andreas, which I played at a perhaps too-young age. At the bottom of the list in the D-tier, you'll find games like Austin Powers: Oh, Behave! and Welcome to My Underground Lair! – titles that few would willingly revisit.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Do you think Vice City surpasses GTA 4? Feel free to create your own tier list below and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community.
