"Capcom Revives Breath of Fire IV on PC, 25 Years Later"

Author : Jack Update : May 15,2025

Breath of Fire IV has been resurrected on PC, a remarkable 25 years following its initial release. Originally gracing the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and then in Europe the following year, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. The story centers around Ryu, a protagonist with the unique ability to transform into a dragon, who joins forces with other warriors to thwart an emperor's destructive ambitions.

As part of its ongoing Preservation Program, GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV to ensure compatibility with modern PCs, releasing it DRM-free on their platform. This enhanced version is optimized for Windows 10 and 11, featuring both English and Japanese localizations. The graphics have been improved through an upgraded DirectX renderer, and new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction enhance the visual experience. The audio has not been overlooked, with an upgraded engine that restores missing environmental sounds and introduces new configuration options.
