Adult's First LEGO Buy: Mario Set, No Regrets
As a practical person, my spending habits are usually focused on essentials, with the occasional splurge on a discounted video game. However, last year marked a shift in my perspective when I considered purchasing a LEGO set—a luxury I hadn't entertained since childhood. Despite my love for LEGO as a kid, the high cost of these sets, especially those linked to popular franchises, had always deterred me. It wasn't until I saw the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant on sale for under $50 that I decided to indulge, convincing myself that my desk needed a new potted plant.

My interest in the Piranha Plant set was sparked after reading IGN's review. As a long-time fan of the Mario franchise, this set seemed like the perfect way to showcase my passion. While LEGO's botanical line offers beautiful flower sets, none capture the whimsical yet slightly terrifying charm of the Piranha Plant.

Having now built the set, I'm thrilled to have it on my desk. It transports me to the Mushroom Kingdom, imagining I'm tending to my own Piranha Plant during work hours. The building process was enjoyable and challenging enough to keep me engaged throughout an afternoon. This is currently my only LEGO Nintendo set, but the experience has me eager to expand my collection.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?
LEGO sets, particularly those aimed at adults, can be quite pricey, with some reaching over $200. It's easy to get carried away with these appealing sets, but it's important to balance indulgence with financial responsibility. The Mario LEGO set, priced under $50, felt like a justified purchase for me. The joy of building it and the daily happiness it brings me are well worth the cost. However, $50 is my personal limit for such a purchase.
