Funcom hat klargestellt, dass das Debüt von Dune: Awakening am 20. Mai ein vollständiger Launch sein wird, kein Early Access. Ein aktueller Steam-Blogpost vom 21. März gab Details über das Geschäftsmodell, Systemanforderungen und zukünftige Updates bekannt.

Diese Multiplayer-Survival-Adaption des klassischen Sci-Fi-Romans von 1965 bricht mit traditionellen MMO-Abonnementmodellen wie bei Final Fantasy XIV oder World of Warcraft. Stattdessen wird Dune: Awakening fortlaufend kostenlose Erweiterungen mit neuem Content und Verbesserungen erhalten.

Das Studio betonte sein langfristiges Engagement und verwies auf jahrzehntelange Live-Service-Erfahrung mit Titeln wie Anarchy Online (bald 25 Jahre) und Conan Exiles (weiterhin regelmäßige Updates).
