Application Description
The tingklik is a traditional bamboo musical instrument from Bali, Indonesia.
The tingklik is crafted from bamboo blades and is played by striking them with a special mallet, known as a paddle or "tingklik pelvis." Gamelan ensembles typically feature two tingklik instruments: the Tingklik Polos and the Tingklik Sangsih. A standard tingklik consists of bamboo slats, ranging in number from eleven to twenty-five, depending on the musical scale it is tuned to. Players use both hands to perform: the right hand articulates the kotekan (melody), while the left hand provides the foundational rhythm. In some techniques, the right hand plays the sangsih (ornamental) part, and the left hand plays the polos (core) part.
