Hideo Kojima hat bekannt gegeben, dass er Margaret Qualley als Mama im Death Stranding besetzt hat, nachdem er von ihrer Leistung in einer von Spike Jonze gerichteten Duftwerbung für Kenzo fasziniert war. Am 25. April ging Kojima zu Twitter, um die wirksame Werbespot zu teilen, in der ich sagte: "Ich habe dies gesehen und ihr die Rolle von Mama (Lockne) bei Death Stranding angeboten."

In der Anzeige tanzt Qualley energisch zu einem basslastigen Track, der an das ikonische Video der "Waffe der Wahl" von Fat Boy Slim mit Christopher Walken erinnert.
