The 29 Card Game, sometimes referred to as the 28 Card Game due to minor rule variations, is a beloved South Asian trick-taking game where the Jack and the Nine are the highest cards in every suit.

Typically, 29 is enjoyed by four players in fixed partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other.

The game utilizes 32 cards from a standard 52-card deck, divided into the traditional "French" suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. Each suit contains eight cards, ranked from high to low as follows: J-9-A-10-K-Q-8-7. The objective is to win tricks that contain valuable cards.

The card values are as follows:

• Jacks - 3 points each
• Nines - 2 points each
• Aces - 1 point each
• Tens - 1 point each
• Other cards (K, Q, 8, 7) - no points

This results in a total of 28 points from the cards. Some versions of the game award an additional point for the last trick, bringing the total to 29 points, which explains the game's name. However, many players today do not count the last trick's point, yet the game retains the name "29" even in this 28-point variant.

Traditionally, the Twos, Threes, Fours, and Fives, which are removed from the full 52-card deck, serve as trump indicators. Each player receives a set of these cards, one from each suit. Meanwhile, the Sixes are used for scoring, with each partnership utilizing one red and one black Six for this purpose.
